Hook Heath, Woking

Private client

We advised the owners on the potential for redeveloping this bungalow, located in an Edwardian garden suburb of grand Arts & Crafts houses by leading architects. Following research into the character and historic development of the wider suburb, we were able to conclude that while the house was the same age as its neighbours, it did not form part of the Conservation Area’s special character. Our Heritage Statement provided detailed justification for this view, and explained how national and local heritage policies allowed for demolition in favour of a high quality new family home.

The report argued for the proposed redevelopment by explaining how the new design would accord with the local Arts & Crafts character, and respect the setting of the adjacent Grade II listed house by Edwin Lutyens. The Application passed smoothly through the planning process and successfully achieved consent.
