Hare and Hounds, Ledburn
Client: Planning Matters
The Hare & Hounds is an Edwardian former public house located in Ledburn, near Aylesbury. When we got involved in the project, the building had been vacant for over a year and extensive marketing had failed to find a new publican. As the local authority considered the building to be an ‘undesignated heritage asset’ a strong justification was need to convert the pub to residential use. We provided a Heritage Statement which set out the historic development of the building, justified the change of use and assessed the impact of the conversion proposals on the asset and its setting.
The project subsequently expanded with proposals for a full-height extension to the building to provide more family accommodation. Drawing upon our original analysis we produced a second Heritage Statement that considered the impact of the proposals upon the special interest of the existing building, and persuaded the Council to grant consent.
