Elm Park Court, Pinner

Elm Park Court comprises three blocks of flats designed in the ‘Hacienda’ style, a strain of Art Deco influenced by the Spanish colonial architecture featured in glamorous Hollywood films. The management company had been trying for some years to replace the poorly performing communal heating system, but the nature of the buildings threw up several issues – two approved schemes were found to be impossible to implement, while other options were felt to be too damaging to the Grade II listed buildings. We were brought in to prepare a Heritage Statement setting out the significance of the buildings and assessing the pros and cons of all the possible schemes, and to carry out negotiations with the London Borough of Harrow and the Twentieth Century Society. Our work led to fruitful pre-application discussions where we were able to secure consent for the client’s preferred approach.
