Anthony Hoyte

Anthony joined the Built Heritage Consultancy in 2013, following five years working as a heritage consultant for Alan Baxter & Associates, and a year as an Associate Director with CgMs Consulting. His earlier career included historic building research and managing graphic design and marketing teams at practices such as Foster & Partners, David Chipperfield Architects and Arup Associates.
Anthony has extensive experience of advising on conservation and redevelopment affecting listed buildings, conservation areas, archaeological sites and locally-designated heritage assets. Past clients have included a range of public bodies such as Network Rail, London Underground, Defence Estates, the Church Commissioners and a number of universities and local authorities, in addition to numerous private clients and developers. His range of experience contributes to Anthony’s considerable expertise in negotiating effectively with Historic England, local planning authorities and the national amenity societies.
With degrees in industrial design, the history of design, and heritage conservation, as well as full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation, Anthony has extensive knowledge of design and conservation issues, relevant legislation and guidance, and architectural history of all periods. His commitment to thorough research and creative thinking on each and every project underpins the reliability and effectiveness of his work, ensuring an informed and strategic approach that enables difficult decisions about the historic environment to be made successfully.
